Liver Cancer diagnosis

Liver cancer, as a high-incidence type of cancer, poses a serious threat to public health. Capturing hidden cancer clues from the symptoms and signs present in the body plays a vital role in timely detection and diagnosis of liver cancer. Once you notice any physical abnormality in your daily life, you must go to the hospital for examination immediately.

Cancer experts at Guangzhou R&F Hospital International Cancer Hospital said that the five-year survival rate of liver cancer detected in the early stage can reach 70% after treatment, while the survival rate of patients in the middle and late stages is only half. Therefore, mastering the diagnostic methods of liver cancer and achieving early detection and early diagnosis are the keys to liver cancer treatment. So, what are the commonly used methods for diagnosing liver cancer in clinical practice?

  1. Ultrasound examination: Ultrasound examination is extremely important in the diagnosis of liver tumor diseases. It can accurately present the size and shape of the tumor, with a diagnostic compliance rate of up to 84%, and can even detect lesions with a diameter of 2cm or smaller. As a non-invasive examination method, ultrasound examination does not cause any harm to the human body. This test may be considered a priority when suspected liver cancer symptoms such as weight loss, fatigue, and pain in the liver area occur.

  2. CT examination: CT has a high resolution and can detect early liver cancer with a diameter of about 1.0 cm, with a diagnostic accuracy rate of up to 90%. However, its high inspection cost has limited its widespread application to a certain extent.

  3. MRI examination: MRI examination can help improve the detection rate of small liver cancer, and has obvious advantages in distinguishing liver cancer from local hyperplastic nodules and hepatic adenomas, and can serve as an important supplement to CT examination.

  4. AFP testing: In clinical practice, AFP testing is a common and simple method for diagnosing liver cancer. By testing the alpha-fetoprotein level in the blood, it can provide key evidence for the diagnosis of liver cancer. Under normal circumstances, the level of alpha-fetoprotein in the human body is low, but this indicator often increases significantly in patients with liver cancer.

  5. Selective celiac or hepatic artery radiography: For highly vascular cancers, this test can sometimes show lesions as small as 0.5 to 1 cm in diameter with an accuracy rate of 90%. It can not only determine the location and size of the lesion, but also clarify its distribution, and has outstanding advantages in the localization diagnosis of small liver cancer.

Early and accurate diagnosis of the disease is a prerequisite for effective treatment of liver cancer. With the continuous advancement of medical technology and the widespread application of comprehensive treatment models, the treatment effect of early liver cancer has been significantly improved. Experts from Guangzhou R&F Hospital International Cancer Hospital pointed out that the treatment effect of liver cancer mainly depends on the degree of deterioration of the patient's condition, the treatment methods used, physical fitness and psychological quality, etc. These factors jointly influence the treatment effect and survival time of liver cancer patients. Of course, if a reasonable and effective treatment plan can be formulated and implemented in the early stages, patients with early liver cancer are very likely to achieve long-term survival.
